Hox genes: The instructors working at motor pools

Article Abstract:

A network of Hox genes is responsible for instructing motor pool development. Many reasons are explained for this including the identification of specific members of the Hox genes family in limb-innervating motor neurons and Hox mutants exhibiting defects in motor axon projections consistent with an alteration in their identity.

An RNA sensor for intracellular Mg(super 2+)

Article Abstract:

The first example of a RNA serving as sensor for cytoplasmic Mg(super 2+) is reported. It is established that expression of the Mg(super 2+) transporter MgtA of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium is controlled by its 5' untranslated region (5'UTR).

Both the establishment and the maintenance of neuronal polarity require active mechanisms: Critical roles of GSK-3beta and its upstream regulators

Article Abstract:

A differential distribution of GSK-3beta activity in the axon versus the dendrites is reported. The results suggest that application of GSK-3beta inhibitors could be a novel approach to promote generation of new axons after neural injuries.
