Article Abstract:
Genetic and cytological studies of Horka, reveals that it stimulates the equational nondisjunction that occurs during spermatogenesis. The Horka is a dominant female-sterile mutation of Drosophila melanogaster. The Horka does not affect the process of chromosome loss and also exhibits a dominant paternal effect. The Horka-stimulated chromosome loss is only in the range of 2 to 4%.

Article Abstract:
The assemblage of contiguous arrays of cosmids enables the construction of a physical map of the Drosophila melanogaster euchromatic X chromosome. The cosmids are selected by screening a library having DNA isolated from microamplified chromosomal divisions. The map consists of 893 cosmids and covers about 64% of the chromosomal euchromatic part.

The temperature-induced paralysis locus E (tipE) mutation of the Drosophila melanogaster is investigated by ligand binding and electrophysiological studies. The investigation reveals that the tipE reduces the number of sodium channels in the Drosophila. The sodium channels are associated with the functioning of nerve cells in the Drosophila.
