Article Abstract:
Positive-acting post-translational modifications are studied in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and histone modifications that are associated with transcriptional repression are not shown to occur in this yeast. The results indicate that sumoylation is the first negative histone modification to be identified in S. cerevisiae and further suggest that sumoylation may serve as a general dynamic mark to oppose transcription.

Chromatin remodeling plays a key role in the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression through the activity of both ATP-dependent nucleosome remodeling factors and histone modifying activities. The data generated after an experiment suggested that Rad6 and SAGA function independently during galactose induction.

Article Abstract:
Enzymes involved in histone ubiquitination and deubiquitination is studied along with its role and mechanism of transcriptional regulation. How histone ubiqutination affects transcription is explained and both the positive and negative effects of histone ubiqutination on transcription is reported.
