Histone demethylation mediated by the nuclear amine oxidase homolog LSD1

Article Abstract:

The extent of histone acetylation on histone n-terminals tails, which are subjected to many covalent modifications that affect chromatin structure as well as transcription, is known but very little information is available on whether histone methylation is also regulated by enzymes with opposite activities. The findings of the tests conducted to show that LSD1 behaves as a histone demethylase and transcriptional corepressor are discussed.

Cln3 activates G1-specific transcription via phosphorylation of the SBF bound repressor Whi5

Article Abstract:

The swi4/6 cell cycle box binding factor (SBF) and mlul cell cycle box binding factor (MBF) transcription factor complexes are examined by multidimensional protein interaction technology (MudPIT) for the identification of targets of Cln3/ cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK). Cell cycle initiation and cell proliferation are restrained during the early G1 phase due to the repression of G1 specific transcription by Whi5.

Phosphorylation by the beta-Catenin/MAPK complex promotes 14-3-3-mediated nuclear export of TCF/POP-1 in signal-responsive cells in C. elegans

Article Abstract:

A Wnt/MAPK signaling pathway down regulates the TCF/LEF transcription factor POP-1 in the C. elegans embryo. Extensive studies support a model whereby Wnt signaling stabilizes Beta-catenin, which enters the nucleus and associates with TCF/LEF transcription factor to activate transcription.
