High-resolution model of the microtubule

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze a high-resolution framework of the microtubule. The model supports the docking of the crystal structure of tubulin into a 20 Angstrom map of the microtubule. A nucleotide-sensitive helix associates with a loop during lateral contacts to promote the binding site of taxol in beta-tubulin. Results indicated that the conformation of protofilament is conserved for polymers with no changes in the structure of tubulin or in the longitudinal contacts between subunits.

Costal2, a novel kinesin-related protein in the hedgehog signaling pathway

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted of the Hedgehog (HH) signalling proteins as well as the relationship between costal2 (COS2) and cubitus interruptus (CI). The findings indicate that COS2 encodes a kinesin-related protein the accumulates preferentially in cells that can respond to HH. Furthermore, the association of CI with COS2 in a large protein complex was observed, which suggests that COS2 directly controls CI activity.

A super highway to virus infection

Article Abstract:

The parasitic relationship of viruses with the host cytoskeleton provides an excellent basis for cell biologists to unlock the secrets of cytoplasmic transport and unravel mechanisms of disease. The way in which viruses use microtubule cytoskeleton to enhance their spread of infection is focused and the mechanism regulating cytoplasmic transport is highlighted.
