High levels of diploid male production in a primitively eusocial bee (Hymenoptera: Halictidae)

Article Abstract:

High levels of diploid male production are discussed based on study in a primitively eusocial bee. Numerous diploid males were found and collected, using allozyme electrophoresis, in natural populations of the bee in southern and central Florida. Interpreted of data was based on the biogeographic history of Florida and the social biology and population dynamics of Halictus poeyi.

Kin-structured colonization in Phalacrus substriatus

Article Abstract:

Kin-structured colonization in the mycophagous beetle Phalacrus substriatus is discussed relative to study in Sweden on three islands of the genetic structure of newly colonized populations. Founding events may affect the structuring of genetic variation in and between local populations, which is the perspective of the discussion. Kin-structuring is strong.

The population genetics of a solitary oligolectic sweat bee, Lasioglossum (Sphecodogastra) oenotherae (Hymenoptera: Halictidae)

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the population genetics of the specialist Lasioglossum oenotherae across its range in North America using isolated hyper variable microsatellite markers. It provides the estimates for key parameters that are rarely known in solitary bee populations.
