Heterogeneity among isolates of Vibrio vulnificus recovered from eels (Anguilla anguilla) in Denmark

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine Vibrio vulnificus isolates from diseased eels recovered in a couple of Danish eel farms. A novel phage typing system and a serotyping scheme were utilized to serologically characterize the isolates while lipopolysaccharide was extracted from selected isolates. Each isolate was then examined for indole production after incubation at 37 degrees C. Findings indicated that the V. vulnificus isolates were heterogeneous.

Isolation of Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio splendidus from aquacultured carpet shell clam (Ruditapes decussatus) larvae associated with mass mortalities

Article Abstract:

The general enzymatic activities of viable bacteria and their extracellular products (ECPs) as well as the in vitto influence on hemocyte survival during two separate events is determined. The result obtained confirm the pathogenic effects of two Vibrio species that were the causative agents of high rates of mortality of larvae and carpet shell clam spat in a commercial hatchery.

Stress and stress-induced neuroendocrine changes increase the susceptibility of juvenile oysters (Crassostrea gigas) to Vibrio splendidus

Article Abstract:

Stress and its associated physiological and hormonal changes can make oysters more susceptible to Vibrio splendidus. Bacterial contamination of oysters has been linked to food-borne human disease.
