Article Abstract:
The hemoglobin gene of Vitreoscilla stercoraria strain DW was cloned and characterized. The gene contains several silent segments within the coding region. Analysis of the expressed gene product revealed that the interaction region between the A and the E helices of strain DW hemoglobin is different from that of the strain C1 hemoglobin. This difference is responsible for the slower autooxidation rate in the DW hemoglobin. The genes from the two Vitreoscilla strains also have different oxygen sensitivities and constitutive formation.

Article Abstract:
The first molecular study of the bacterial flora of the sheep scab mite (Psoroptes ovis) was conducted. The presence in P ovis of sequences resembling 16S rDNA sequences of bacteria that are related to allergic conditions, such as dermatitis and otitis media, is described. Results confirm previous results in which the authors proposed that more than one strain of Serratia marcescens was present in P ovis and that there also other unidentified bacterial species present.

Article Abstract:
The modification of the coding sequences of the cysE and cysK genes from Escherichia coli for expression into eukaryotic cells and intoduction to murine L cells is discussed. Plasmids were constructed from E. coli genes. Cytoplasmic RNA were isolated from cell cultures. Fractionated DNA were subjected to Southern and dot blot analysis. Total cytoplasmic RNA were subjected to Northern analysis. A model for the modification of bacterial genes is presented.
