Article Abstract:
A study of the synthesis of endoglucanase and many hemicellulolytic enzymes in P- and S-group strains of Heterobasidion annosum through enzyme activity assays and isoelectric focusing reveals that xylamases, endoglucanases, mannases and alpha-galactosidases are synthesized by both strains of the fungus in liquid cultures with birch sawdust or pure xylan. Cultures with glucose alone as carbon source exhibit very low activities of the enzymes. The generation of hemicellulolytic and endoglucanase activities is related to an increase in the pH of the birch sandwich culture medium. The individual endoglucanases differ in their relative intensities between the two strains.

Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Mycobacterium vaccae treated with the polycationic compound sat subinhibitory concentrations. Results indicate that M. vaccae has performed the intracellular degradation of the beta-sitosterol side chain and has exhibited susceptibility to the antimycobacterial agents.

Article Abstract:
Results show that Mycobacterium smegmatis and M. bovis BCG can adjust to growing in acidic pH environment of 4.5 and 5.0 respectively, suggesting their ability to regulate internal pH (homeostasis). Data reveal that internal pH in both species is maintained between 6.1 and 7.2 under acidic environment.
