Heat shock treatment increases the frequency of loss of an Erythromycin resistance-encoding transposable element from the chromosome of Lactobacillus crispatus CHCC3692

Article Abstract:

Exponentially growing cells were exposed to heat shock for 10 min at 60 degree Celsius, to investigate the expression or induction of transposase gene during heat shock. Observations suggest that heat shock treatment could be used as a tool for the removal of unwanted antibiotic resistance genes harbored in transposons flanked by insertion sequence elements or transposases in lactic acid bacteria used for animal and human food production.

Effects of Lactococcus lactis on composition of intestinal microbiota: Role of Nisin

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the ability of pure nisin, nisin-producing Lactococcus lactis strain CHCC5826, and the non-nisin-producing L. lactis strain CHCH2862 to affect the composition of the intestinal microbiota of human flora-associated rats. It was observed that the degradation or inactivation of nisin was indicated in the gastrointestinal tract.

Transformation of Leuconostoc carnosum 4010 and evidence for natural competence of the organism

Article Abstract:

Development of the DNA transformation protocol for Leuconostoc carnosum is identified in this study. Also, evidence that this carnosum is naturally competent in the absence of an electrical field is also demonstrated.
