Article Abstract:
The biochemical function of Pseudomonas fluorescens strain OprF outer-membrane protein was analyzed to determine the mechanisms that regulate outer-membrane permeability in the microbe. Analysis of Pseudomonas fluorescens OprF indicated the role of growth temperature in modulating the pore structure and function of the outer-membrane protein. Furthermore, the channel-forming properties of OprF exhibited little variability in two Pseudomonas fluorescens strains.

Article Abstract:
Microbiological research has identified three hydrocarbon-degrading psychrotropic bacteria from Arctic soil samples that contain petroleum contamination. Each isolate appears to belong to the genus Pseudomonas. They can break down alkanes and napthalene via the alk catabolic pathway and the nah catabolic pathway for polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon biodegradation. Analysis techniques using plasmids shows that the pathways can coexist.

Article Abstract:
OprF's from Pseudomonas species of two thermal groups, psychrotrophic P. putide OIG3 isolated from polluted soil and the mesophilic human pathogen P. aeruginosa PAO1 are discussed. Results suggest that OprF could adopt two alternative conformations in the outer membrane and that folding is thermoregulated.
