Growth rates and life histories in twenty-two small-scale societies

Article Abstract:

The evolution of reaction norms for optimal growth rates and growth rates and growth periods in particular socioecological contexts is presented. Detection of different developmental patterns is difficult without cross-cultural growth information, and growth and life-history traits helped illuminate some differential ontogenetic strategies which proved useful for understanding the evolutionary and ecological processes behind their existence.

Mortality experience of Tsimane Amerindians of Bolivia: Regional variation and temporal trends

Article Abstract:

The regional and temporal trends in mortality patterns among Tsimane population in Bolivia were analyzed by comparing the age-specific mortality in populations living in remote forests and that in more acculturated villages. The mortality rate in the remote villages was found to be higher civilized regions in infant and middle adult groups whereas it decreased among the older adult group.
