Article Abstract:
The growth and cholesterol oxidation by Mycobacterium strain NRRL B-3683 and strain DP (a Mycobacterium isolated from marine sediment) in cholesterol-Tween 80 medium were examined. Both strains grew rapidly in Tween 80 medium and accumulated 4-androsten-3,17-dione (AD) and 1,4-androstadien-3,17-dione (ADD). However, strain DP accumulated more ADD than did strain NRRL B-3683. The low ADD accumulations by NRRL B-3683 might result from ADD toxicity in Tween 80 medium.

Article Abstract:
Experimental studies help determine the influence of various acids on survival and growth of Escherichia coli O157:H7 at different temperatures. Acids with different pH exert different influence on the growth and survival. Acidulant and temperature exert significant influence on the survival, and reduction in pH increases the survival of pathogens at 4 degrees Celsius. In acidic conditions E. coli 0157:H7 exhibits ability to survive up to 56 days.

Article Abstract:
The physiological changes that allow the survival of Serratiamarcescens in chlorhexidine-containing contact lens solutions are discussed. Eleven isolates of S. marcescens were subjected to D-value determinations, outer membrane protein examination and adherence studies. Results indicate thatcells adapted to chlorhexidine survived in other contact lens solutions with different antimicrobial agents.
