Glucose metabolism in the yeast Schwanniomyces castellii: role of phosphorylation site I and an alternative respiratory pathway

Article Abstract:

The role of phosphorylation site I and an alternative respiratory pathway in the glucose metabolism in the yeast Schwanniomyces castellii were examined using continuous culture during a period when metabolism was either oxidative or respirofermentative. Results show that the salicylhydroxamic acid-sensitive respiratory pathway was constantly present in S. castellii in various growth conditions. This repiratory pathway permitted the activation of phosphorilation site I.

Isolation, purification, and characterization of the PR oxidase from Penicillium roqueforti

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to isolate, purify and characterize an extracellular enzyme called PR oxidase from Penicillium roqueforti. PR toxin and PR acid were isolated from the culture medium before being determined by high performance liquid chromatography using a model 510 liquid chromatograph supporting a tunable absorbance detector. Experimental results indicated that eremofortin is transformed to PR toxin by extracellular oxidase.

Isolation, purification, and characterization of a killer protein from Schwanniomyces occidentalis

Article Abstract:

A killer protein isolated from the yeast Schwanniomyces occidentalis has sequence similarity to killer toxin D2 from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This strain of S. occidentalis could be used as a starter in commercial fermentations to prevent contamination by wild killer yeasts.
