Article Abstract:
The heterothallic nature of Gibberella xylarioides, Booth's hypothesis of sex-linked morphological dimorphism and whether cryptic speciation has occurred within the Coffea canephora/excelsa pathogen population and/or between existent and historical pathogen populations are described. The infertility of crosses between the coffee wilt pathogen and known G. fujikuroi species complex (GFC) mating populations shows that G. xylarioides sensu lato constitutes a new biological species within G. fujikuroi complex.

Article Abstract:
The construction of a 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol for the selective identification of Pseudomonas (sensu stricto) in environmental samples is described. Pseudomonas-selective PCR (Ps-PCR) primer sequences were determined at 16S rRNA sequences collected from the Ribosomal Database Project and GenBank. Results showed that 50 Pseudomonas (sensu stricto) cultures exhibited positive results while the Ps-PCR protocol 14 non-Pseudomonas cultures were negative.

Article Abstract:
Field-collected mosquitoes of the two main malaria vectors in Africa, Anopheles gambiae sensu lato and Anopheles funestus are screened for their midgut bacterial contents. Bacteria representating three intracellular genera are identified, among them the first identifications of Anaplasma species from mosquitoes and a new mosquito-Spiroplasma association.
