Genome recombination in intergeneric hybrids between tetraploid Festuca pratensis and Lolium multiflorum

Article Abstract:

Recombination of homoeologous genomes was investigated through in situ hybridization of the total genomic DNA in four F8 populations chosen from reciprocal intergeneric hybrids of tetraploid Lolium multiflorum with Festuca pretensis. Findings indicated that with apparently complete interchangeability of chromatin between genera, any variation introduced across the taxonomic boundary may not be different from any allelic variation found in an outcrossing population.

Spatial Dynamics and Molecular Ecology of North American Rabies

Article Abstract:

A present-day rabies epizootic in the eastern US has been attributed primarily to a well-adapted rabies virus variant introduced to a raccoon population during the 1970s. The article presents predictive models of rabies spread, and links emergence patterns to host specificity, genetic heterogeneity, and local environmental variables.

Cytogenetics of semi-fertile triploid and aneuploid intergeneric vine cacti hybrids

Article Abstract:

The fertility and breeding potential of the triploid and aneuploid hybrids were assessed to develop an improved vine cactus crop. The results indicate that triploid and aneuploid clones yielded viable seeds whose number per fruit was strongly dependent on the pollen donor.
