Article Abstract:
A study describes the genetic architecture underlying differences in functionally related male pigmentation and behavior between two Asian Drosophila melanogaster group species, D. elegans and D. gunungcola. Results show that the X-chromosome contains a major locus or loci required for wing spot formation and that autosomal loci largely determine the male courtship display.

Article Abstract:
The recruitment of nondividing cells into the cell cycle is discussed in terms of the reason why the cell cycle duration and the clustering of dividing cells may not coincide. Smith and Martin proposed a transition probability model through analyzing the data from time-lapse cinematography of normal and transformed cells in cell culture.

Article Abstract:
The phenotypic variances of hybrid larvae were compared with those derived from backcrosses to their respective parent species. Increases in phenotypic variance in both backcrosses are due to recombination at gene loci for which the parent species differ.
