Article Abstract:
A PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism system for typing stx2 genes of STEC strains was developed and studied. Findings suggest that stx2 sequences and PHIA types with the same phenotypic characteristics are grouped together in the phylogenetic tree and it is concluded that future toxicity experiments using cell cultures with members of different clusters of the phylogenetic tree may further elucidate the association with their cytotoxicity.

Article Abstract:
A transposon containing genes for increased nodulation competence and plasmid stability was constructed and used to transform the pHU52 plasmid. The recombinant plasmid was then used to transform Sinorhizobium sp. strain ANU280. The transformed bacteria contained the plasmid stability gene, trifolitoxin production gene and hydrogen uptake genes. The potential applications of the transposon containing the plasmid stability gene are discussed.

Article Abstract:
The functionality of the terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) method is expanded by automating the task of phylogenetic assignment from the T-RF profiles produced by multiple digests. The use of multiple digests increases the specificity of polygenetic inferences derived from the T-RFLP profiles, and automation of this task makes this type of analysis accessible for analysis of complex communities.
