Article Abstract:
The distribution of genetic variation within and among 20 European sites infested by the large pine weevil, Hylobius abietis, is explored by using dominant amplified fragment length polymorphism markers. The results have shown that the use of different host plants for development does not constitute a strong barrier to gene flow for Hylobius abietis and has confirmed the dispersal ability of this forest pest.

Article Abstract:
A genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism map is used in a recombinant N2 x CB4856 inbred panel of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to study the genetic control of phenotypic plasticity to temperature in four fitness-related traits. Genetic variation and genotype-environment interaction was found for age at maturity, fertility, egg size and growth rate.

Article Abstract:
A fast population screening method for detecting genetic variation in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I genes of birds is developed. Motif-specific PCR is used to amplify two subsets of alleles that are separated by DGGE, as a locus-specific screening protocol is impractical due to the high similarity between alleles across loci.
