Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the genetic diversity of the Mediterranean isolates by ribotyping and RAPD PCR through a comparison of the obtained profiles with the ones shown by V. vulnificus strains from different sources. Other objectives were to determine the genetic relatedness of the V. vulnificus strains isolated at the Spanish fish farm and to analyze the usefulness of RAPD as a typing technique. Results demonstrate that RAPD PCR is better than ribotyping in the analysis of V. vulnificus isolates.

Article Abstract:
A large number of clinical and environmental strains of Vibrio vulnificus was collected from the United States and the southern and northern parts of Taiwan and then they were analyzed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). The results showed that PFGE with SfiI digestion is used to characterize V. vulnificus strains from distant geographic regions, with NotI being a recommended alternative enzyme.

Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the nuclease gene Vvn, cloned from the estuarine bacterium Vibrio vulnificus, has a limited role in foreign-DNA uptake prevention via transmission, but is not significant in level of virulence or in conjugation frequency. The bacterium causes septicemia and wound infection in humans and eels.
