Genetic modification of Bacillus subtilis for production of D-chiro-inositol, an investigational drug candidate for treatment of type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome

Article Abstract:

The genetic modification of Bacillus subtilis for production of D-chiro-Inositol(DCI) from myo-inositol is reported. DCI is a drug candidate for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome since it improves the efficiency with which the body uses insulin and also promotes ovulation.

Visualization of differential gene expression by improved cyan fluorescent protein and yellow fluorescent protein production in Bacillus subtilis

Article Abstract:

New cloning vectors for the construction of cyan fluorescent protein and yellow fluorescent protein (CFP and YFP) fusions in Bacillus subtilis are discussed. Expression of the abrB and spoIIA genes is distinct in individual cells within an isogenic population of sporulating B. subtilis cells.

Plant cell wall degradation by saprophytic Bacillus subtilis strains: Gene clusters responsible for rhamnogalacturonan depolymerization

Article Abstract:

The degradation system of rhamnogalacturonan type I (RG-I), a component of pectin from the plant cell wall in Bacillus subtilis strain 168 was examined. The three gene clusters of yes series were expressed in strain 168.
