Genetic identity of YOY bluefin tuna from the eastern and western Atlantic spawning areas

Article Abstract:

Thirty young-of-the-year (YOY) specimens of the migratory Atlantic bluefin tuna were studied in order to evaluate the hypothesis that Atlantic bluefin tuna comprises two stocks with spawning grounds in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Mediterranean Sea. A high degree of spawning site fidelity was indicated from the genetic divergence among spawning populations as also from the trans-Atlantic movements of juvenile and adult Atlantic bluefin tuna.

A four-year report of the American Genetic Assn (AGA) from 1988-1991 was submitted. The AGA is an organization committed to the promotion of genetics and genetic principles for the advancement of human welfare. The report includes information on organizational changes, council and executive committee activities and the association's revenues and expenses. The bylaws of the AGA and a list of its members are also presented.

Luther Burbank: Honorary member of the American Breeder's Association

Article Abstract:

Luther Burbank, once widely acclaimed to be America's most famous horticulturist and plant breeder was unanimously elected to honorary membership at the opening meeting of the American Breeder's Association (ABA) at St. Louis in 1903. It is estimated that he was responsible for introducing between 800 and 1,000 plants to American horticulture and agriculture.
