Article Abstract:
A mutant of Pseudomonas syringae B728a that does not produce alginate was as virulent against bean plants as the wild version. This shows that a deficiency of alginate production is not the sole cause of the nonpathogenicity of gacS and gacA mutants.

Article Abstract:
The gacS-cysM intergenic region of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae B728a can be used for site-directed insertion of markers to distinguish it from other bacteria in field experiments. Up to seven kb of DNA can be inserted without significantly altering bacterial fitness.

Article Abstract:
The initial characterization of the tblA gene of Pseudomonas syringae and its role in the genetic characterization of tabtoxin biosynthesis are discussed. The transcript of the tblA was subjected to Northern hybridization analysis to determine its detection sites. The presence of this transcript and the detection in culture filtrates at all stages of bacterial growth in minimal medium of Tabtoxinine-beta-lactam were correlated. It was found that two different tabtoxin-producing strains transmits the tblA message throughout all growth phases in minimal medium.
