Catalase deficiency in Staphylococcus aureus subsp. anaerobius is associated with natural loss-of-function mutations within the structural gene

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the degenerated oligonucleotide primers. The use of the primers to locate the Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcuc aureus subsp. anaerobius kat regions by polymerase chain reaction is described.

Genetic diversity of Ralstonia solanacearum as assessed by PCR-RFLP of the hrp gene region, AFLP and 16S rRNA sequence analysis, and identification of an African subdivision

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the genetic diversity among Ralstonia solanacearum strains. The use of the AFLP and PCR-RFLP analyses in investigating this diversity is discussed.

Variation in the size of the repeat region of the fibrinogen receptor (clumping factor) of Staphylococcus aureus strains

Article Abstract:

A study investigating the sizes of the clfA repeat regions in different clumping factors produced by S. aureus strains by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) finds that the repeat region varies from 580 base pairs to 1320base pairs in length. The clfA protein bears a highly peculiar 308 residue dipeptide repeat region made up mainly of Asp and Ser. The size of the clfA repeat region does not shareany relationship with the ability of these strains to form clumps in a solution of fibrinogen. This binding ability is what makes S. aureus infections difficult to treat.
