Article Abstract:
The bacterial plant pathogen Burkholderia solanacearum (synonym Pseudomonas solanacearum) race 3 biovar II shows a low degree of genetic diversity in Kenyan isolates. Rare-cutting restriction endonuclease studies identified 10 profile types in Kenyan isolates and 27 profile types in isolates from other countries. A race 3 biovar N2 isolate was also identified. However, genetic diversity is high in isolates from different parts of the world.

Article Abstract:
In situ PCR amplification was used for the routine detection of specific bacterial cells at the single-cell level. The ECOL DNA primer set was used for the amplification of ribosomal DNA of Escherichia coli to identify cells at the single-cell level in the bacterial mixture. An epifluorescence microscope with in situ PCR produced high-contrast images. E coli cells in polluted river water were also observed using image analysis.

Article Abstract:
Respiring Pseudomonas spp. milk were quantified within 6 h by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with vital staining. FISH with an oligonucleotide probe based on 16S rRNA sequences is used for specific detection of Pseudomonas spp. at the single cell level.
