Genetic divergence of Connecticut Melanoplus femurrubrum populations

Article Abstract:

Melanoplus femurrubrum populations were surveyed within the state of Connecticut for genetic diversity at multiple genetic markers including three mitochondrial and one nuclear gene regions. Estimates of genetic diversity revealed higher mitochondrial diversity in the northern region but nearly equal diversity for the internal transcribed spacers for the ribosomal DNA cluster gene.

Postcopulatory sexual selection reduces genetic diversity in experimental populations of Caenorhabditis elegans

Article Abstract:

Genetic diversity was assessed in a large number of Caenorhabditis elegans loci to determine the effects of postcopulatory sexual selection on population genetic variation. It is concluded that genetic hitchhiking dramatically reduced genetic diversity due to sexual selection in the experimental populations.
