Genetic differentiation and phylogenetic relationships among Greek Silurus glanis and Silurus aristotelis (Pisces, Siluridae) populations, assessed by PCR-RFLP analysis of mitochondrial DNA segments

Article Abstract:

Phylogenetic relationships and genetic differentiation among Greek Silurus glanis and Silurus aristotelis (Pisces, Siluridae) populations have been assessed by polymorphism chair reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mDNA) segments. Four mDNA regions were amplified and analyzed with 9 haplotypes found in S. Aristotelis and 10 in S. Glanis, respectively, and no haplotype shared. In the distribution of haplotypes significant geographical substructuring was seen and most populations had private haplotypes which can serve as genetic tags and warrant protection. In Greek S. glanis populations haplotype diversity was very low. .

Dosage effects on heritability and maternal effects in diploid and triploid Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha)

Article Abstract:

The diploid and triploid Chinook salmon families are used to test the dosage effects on the distribution and magnitude of phenotypic variation, narrow-sense heritability and maternal effects in fitness-related traits. The results have shown that inheritance of fitness-relative quantitative traits is highly affected by dosage effects associated with induced triploidy and that triploidation can result in unpredictable performance and fitness outcomes.

Linkage disequilibrium between the pseudoautosomal PEPB-1 locus and the sex-determining region of chinook salmon

Article Abstract:

Allele frequency differences between sexes and an excess of heterozygotes in males had suggested that the PEPB-1 locus is sex-linked in chinook salmon. They are likely candidate regions to find genes associated with differences in life history, morphology, or behavior between males and females.
