Genetic characterization of the Bifidobacterium breve UCC 2003 hrcA locus

Article Abstract:

The genetic characterization of the Bifidobacterium breve UCC 2003 hrcA-dnaJ2 genes, which appear to represent a third pattern of controlled expression of chaperone-encoding genes in the genus Bifidobacterium, is described. The observed induction pattern is unlike those of other characterized dnaJ genes and it might be indicative of a unique stress adaptation strategy by this commensal microorganism.

Sequence analysis of two cryptic plasmids from Bifidobacterium longum DJO10A and construction of a shuttle cloning vector

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the two native plasmids of the Bifidobacterium longum DJO10A strain and construct a cloning vector for bifidobacteria. It was seen that the first cloning vector for bifidobacteria that does not utilize rolling circular replication should be useful for the stable introduction of heterologous genes into these dominant inhabitants of the large intestine.

Analysis, characterization, and loci of the tuf genes in Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species and their direct application for species identification

Article Abstract:

The tuf gene sequences of a large number of species of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are determined, increasing the already existent tuf sequence databases of lactic acid bacteria species. A higher distinctness of the tuf sequences than of the 16S rRNA sequences is demonstrated and a valid molecular marker is offered for inferring phylogeny among closely related taxa.
