Rapid identification and differentiation of the soft rot erwinias by 16S-23S intergenic transcribed spacer-PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the soft rot erwinias. The use of the 16S-23S intergenic transcribed spacer-PCR in identifying these erwinias is described.

Ruminococcin A, a new lantibiotic produced by a Ruminococcus gnavus strain isolated from human feces
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Ruminococcus gnavus E1 strain isolated from a human fecal sample. The isolation and characterization of ruminococcin A, a lantibiotic produced by the E1 strain in a liquid culture medium and in the trypsin presence are reported.

Genetic characterization of pepP, which encodes an aminopeptidase P whose deficiency does not affect Lactococcus lactis growth in milk, unlike deficiency of the X-prolyl dipeptidyl aminopeptidase
Article Abstract:
The pepP gene encoding the lactococcal aminopeptidase P in Lactococcus lactis NCDO763 was cloned and sequenced to investigate the function of the two proline-specific aminopeptidases, PepP and PepX, in nitrogen nutrition. Mutants without PepP and PepX, including the PepX--PepP- double mutant, were constructed. Findings showed that PepP does not affect nitrogen nutrition, unlike PepX. PepP may contribute to the maturation of nascent proteins because of its homology to methionine aminopeptidase.
