Genetic approaches to the identification of the mitis group within the genus Streptococcus
Article Abstract:
Identification of the mitis group in the genus Streptococcus through genetic approaches is discussed. The usefulness and reliability of genetic methods have been evaluated by using 96 human clinical strains from a number of geographic areas. It has been shown that the superoxide dismutase (sodA) partial sequence analysis method is reliable and useful.

Streptococcus equi with truncated M-proteins isolated from outwardly healthy horses
Article Abstract:
Results show that truncated M-protein of streptococcus equi was exhibited by 24% of outwardly healthy horses infected with the pathogen. Data further indicate that genes encoding truncated M-proteins show in-frame deletions between the siganal sequence and the central repeat region.

The complete cps gene cluster from Streptococcus thermophilus NCFB 2393 involved in the biosynthesis of a new exopolysaccharide
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that the cps gene cluster encodes multiple proteins that are involved in various functions such as polymerization and export of the polysaccharide, sugar transport, and EPS biosynthesis.
