Genetic and biochemical evidence for the involvement of a molybdenum-dependent enzyme in one of the selenite reduction pathways of Rhodobacter sphaeroides f. sp. denitrificans IL106
Article Abstract:
Biochemical and genetic strategies are combined to characterize the reduction of selenite in the nonsulfur photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides f. sp. denitrificans IL106. The obtained results are consistent with the existence of many pathways of reduction, one of them involving an uncharacterized molybdoenzyme, different from nitrate, biotin sulfoxide and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) reductases.

Effect of selenite on growth and protein synthesis in the phototrophic bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides
Article Abstract:
The toxicity of selenite at high concentrations in biological organisms is caused by the generation of free radicals during its metabolism. In Rhodobacter sphaeroides, selenite is transported into cells by a polyol transporter.

Selenite and tellurite reduction by Shewanella oneidensis
Article Abstract:
Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 reduces selenite and tellurite preferentially under 0. The Se(0) and Te(0) deposits are located extracellularly and intracellularly, respectively.
