The alpha-amylase gene amyH of the moderate halophile Halomonas meridiana: cloning and molecular characterization

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate isolation, cloning, sequencing, and molecular chracterization of the alpha-amylase gene (amyH). Data reveal that amyH contains four highly conserved amylase regions and a high content of acidic amino acids.

Genes for the synthesis of the osmoprotectant glycine betaine from choline in the moderately halophilic bacterium Halomonas elongata DSM 3043

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the genes that are involved in the oxidative pathway of choline. The isolation of these genes by functional complementation of the Escherichia coli strain is described.

Development of a gene reporter system in moderately halophilic bacteria by employing the ice nucleation gene of Pseudomonas syringae

Article Abstract:

The ice nucleation gene inaZ expresses in moderately halophilic bacteria Halomonas species Volcaniella eurihalina, and Deleya halophila under the control of heterologous promoters. The gene inaZ of Pseudomonas syringae was transferred to the halophiles. Native promoter activity was determined. A recombinant gene with tandem duplication of inaZ at identical orientation showed greater ice nucleation activity.
