Generation of a superoxide dismutase (SOD)-deficient mutant of Campylobacter coli: evidence for the significance of SOD in Campylobacter survival and colonization
Article Abstract:
The microaerophilic nature of Campylobacter species implies an inherent sensitivity towards oxygen and its reduction products, particularly the superoxide anion. The deleterious effects of exposure to superoxide radicals are counteracted by the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Organisms harboring the inactivated sodB gene of Campylobacter coli failed to produce a biologically functional form of the enzyme. The survival of the mutant sodB gene of C. coli was severely compromised when non-growing cells were exposed to air.

Probiotics shown to change bacterial community structure in the avian gastrointestinal tract
Article Abstract:
Research conducted on the genetically modified (GM) probiotic impact on the chicken gastrointestinal tract bacterial flora is presented. Results do not reveal any significant differences between the groups with GM and non-GM probiotic treatment and the control group.

Roles of Fe superoxide dismutase and catalase in resistance of Campylobacter coli to freeze-thaw stress
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Campylobacter coli. The role of the oxidative stress in freeze-thaw-induced killing of this bacteria has been investigated.
