Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the ability of Yersinia enterocolitica plasmids to transduce naturally occurring plasmids. The objective was to investigate phage-mediated gene transfer in Yersinia. Transduction studies were carried out with a temperate phage isolated from a pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica strain and phage mixtures isolated from sewage. Results demonstrate that the temperate phage and the Yersinia phages from sewage could transduce small plasmids isolated from Y enterocolitica biogroup 1A strains.

Article Abstract:
The effects of depriving D-alanine ester from lipoteichoic acid and wall teichoic acid in the Bacillus subtilis was analyzed using insertional activations of the genes dlt operon. Results have shown a rise in the the cell walls' negative charge, increased autolysis and susceptibility to methicillin. However, the D-alanine ester has no protective effect against from phagocytosis and degradation in macrophages.

Article Abstract:
A bacteriocin from Yersinia enterocolitica 29930 in serogroup O:7,8 can inhibit enteropathogenic strains of Y. enterocolitica from serogroups O:3, O:5,27, and O:9. It forms a channel leading to an efflux of potassium and causes a complete loss of cellular metabolic activity in sensitive strains.
