Article Abstract:
The tuf gene sequences of a large number of species of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are determined, increasing the already existent tuf sequence databases of lactic acid bacteria species. A higher distinctness of the tuf sequences than of the 16S rRNA sequences is demonstrated and a valid molecular marker is offered for inferring phylogeny among closely related taxa.

Article Abstract:
The partial sequencing of the genes coding for the GrpE and DnaK chaperones from 14 bifidobacterial species in order to provide new molecular markers for investigation of the phylogeny of the genus Bifidobacterium is described. It is concluded that the phylogeny derived from the various bifidobacterial grpE and dnaK sequences is consistent with that derived from 165 rRNA.

Article Abstract:
This article describes the identification and classification of 89 strains of Bifidibacterium from 26 species using an enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-polymerase chain reaction technique. Data indicate that the technique can be employed to analyze species composition in mixed bifidobacterial cultures.
