Article Abstract:
The modes of reproduction of planulae (sexual vs. vegetative) and levels of gene diversity of the coral Heteroxenia fuscescens population residing in the northern Gulf of Eilat, Red Sea, were investigated, with a collection of eighty-nine larvae from nine mother colonies. It was observed that no two identical DNA samples were present, and therefore no asexual reproduction of planulae was indicated, suggesting that there was one large gene pool and extensive gene flow among the Heteroxenia fuscescens specimens.
