Article Abstract:
Recent research has identified a novel class of regulators of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins. However, the roles played by this class of regulators have remained unknown. To remedy this problem, genetic evidence are gathered from fungi and nematodes. Results indicate that RGS proteins inhibit G protein-mediated signaling at the level of the receptor-G protein interaction or the G protein alpha subunit.

Article Abstract:
The isolation of two noncomplementary fly mutants with slow termination of photoresponses is reported. The results have shown that calmodulin/calmodulin-binding transcription activator (dCAMTA)/F box gene dFbx14 might mediate a long-term feed-back regulation of the activity of [Ca.sup.2+]-stimulating G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which might prevent cell damage due to extra [Ca.sup.2+] influx.

Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to show that DksA, a protein previously unsuspected as a transcription factor, is absolutely required for rRNA regulation. In vitro, DksA binds to RNAP, reduces open complex lifetime, inhibits rRNA promoter activity and amplifies effects of ppGpp and the initiating NTP on rRNA transcription, explaining the dksA requirement in vitro.
