Fot 1 insertions in the Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis genome provide diagnostic PCR targets for detection of the date palm pathogen

Article Abstract:

The soilborne fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis is difficult to detect and identify because the assessment of pathogenicity requires time-consuming inoculation tests. An attempt is made to develop a sensitive diagnostic tool for the detection of this fungus by isolating a number of DNA clones with a copy of the DNA transposable element Fot 1 from a genomic library of the date palm pathogen. The results of the study are discussed.

Purification and characterization of tomatinase from Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici

Article Abstract:

The enzymatic activity of tomatinase from Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici is investigated to determine its applicability as a antifungal to phytopathogenic fungi. Results suggest that there is only one gene encoding tomatinase. The data also indicate that tomatinase aids glycosylation which stabilizes protein formation, confers resistance to proteolytic degradation and facilitates protein transport.

The GUS gene fusion system (Escherichia coli beta-D-glucuronidase gene), a useful tool in studies of root colonization by Fusarium oxysporum

Article Abstract:

Beta-D-glucuronidase gene from Escherichia coli (gusa) (GUS system) in combination with the gene for nitrate reductase (niaD) as the selectable marker transforms the plant-pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum. The GUS system can be used as a sensitive and easy reporter gene assay in F. oxysporum. This is indicated by the expression of the gus A gene during the growth of the fungus in plants.
