Article Abstract:
Examination of the follicular calmodulin (CaM) transcripts in Blattella germanica during the vitellogenic growth phase showed a 4800-fold increase in CaM transcripts in 4 days in the absence of cell division, with a 2.3-fold daily increase in total RNA. The results also indicate that most of the follicular CaM transcripts come from the follicle cell layer. It was also found that the total RNA content of the ovarian follicles increases sharply following injection of juvenile hormone (JH), which specifically affects the level of CaM transcripts in the follicle cells of female B. germanica.

Article Abstract:
The study of the dynamics of the boundaries between the neural plate and the epidermis and between the neural plate and the notoplate reveals that notoplate boundaries and part of the boundary of the epidermis which abuts the prospective spinal cord assist in closing the neural tube and organize cell behavior to elongate the neural plate. The study confirms that these two boundaries plays important roles in neurulation.

Article Abstract:
Mutation studies on cell adhesion molecules in mice provide evidence to support that cell adhesion genes express overlapping functions during development. Knock-out genes for the extracellular matrix and integrins result in a variety of phenotypes carrying defects in one or more functions. The genes also produce null mutations which cause lethality of certain phenotypes.
