Fluctuating asymmetry and genetic variability in the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus): a test of the developmental stability hypothesis in mammals using neutral molecular markers

Article Abstract:

Roe deer is analyzed for fluctuating asymmetry (FA) as an indicator of developmental stability and genetic variability. There is a statistically significant negative correlation of microsatellite heterozygosity and non-metric FA among populations and since microsatellites are non-coding markers, this may be interpreted as evidence for the role of genomic heterozygosity in determining developmental stability.

Does genome size in Dasypyrum villosum vary with fruit colour?

Article Abstract:

A purported plastic genome phenomenon in Dasypyrum villosum is addressed and it is examined whether the reports of genome size being up to 1.24-fold large in seedlings from the lighter caryopses are reproducible. An attempt is made to obtain an independent data from D. villosum for which the extent of genome size variation and its relationship with fruit colour could be evaluated.

The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the most widespread type of sequence variation in genomes type and are emerging as highly valuable genealogical and phylogenetic markers is stated. As they are usually identified using a limited subset of the sequences from a population, they represent a highly biased sample of genetic variation.
