Article Abstract:
The origin of insect flight has been of widespread interest but there has been less attention paid to the subsequent evolution and diversification of insect flight techniques. Aerodynamic requirements for flapping flight are reviewed and the requirements are applied to flight in modern mayflies and dragonflies, interpreting that of Palaeozoic Ephemeroptera and Odonatoptera.

Article Abstract:
The maternally inherited, female-biased sex ratio in some arthropods has been attributed to microorganism infection. In the Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis, there is evidence that feminizing bacteria are present. The inheritance of the sex ratio distortion in the borer was studied, as were underlying mechanisms.

Article Abstract:
Research into insect flight control from the viewpoint of flight mechanics is presented. It is concluded that the number of degrees of freedom that insects can control cannot be greater than the number of independent control inputs. Full three-axis control has only been demonstrated for larger flies and dragonflies.
