Fitness of F1 hybrids between weedy Brassica rapa and oilseed rape (B. napus)

Article Abstract:

Researchers conducted a study to investigate the fitness of hybrids between three weedy B. rapa populations and three varieties of B. napus. Reciprocal pollinations were performed and the resulting offsprings were scored for seed development, survival in nature, and pod-and seed-set. Hybrid offsprings survived in the field as frequently as conspecific offsprings, and produced far more pods that contained fewer seeds. By combining the fitness components, hybrids were intermediate to their parents, and more fit than B. rapa. Genotype differences were recorded between offspring produced by different parental plants.

RAPD of controlled crosses and clones from the field suggests that hybrids are rare in the Salix alba-Slaix fragilis complex

Article Abstract:

Morphology and molecular variation from RAPDs were studied in several case studies on willows from Belgium. It appears that hybrids are rare in the Salix alba-Slaix fragilis complex based on RAPD of controlled field crosses and clones. Molecular markers do not necessarily follow the morphological traits of allozyme data.

Paternally inherited markers in bovine hybrid populations

Article Abstract:

The species-specific markers of the paternally transmitted Y-chromosome for the direct detection of male-mediated introgression are described. The genetic integrity of crossfertile bovine- or cattle-like species is supposed to be endangered by species hybridization.
