Fire blight protection with avirulent mutants of Erwinia amylovora

Article Abstract:

The protective ability of the avirulent mutants of Erwinia amylovora which are found to control the fire blight disease was determined using the bioassay on apple seedlings. Results have shown that a minimal concentration of the avirulent mutant was required to give a significant level of protection. Competition for putative infection sites of the host plant is more likely between avirulent and virulent bacteria. Parameters that play a role in the protection level are the type of avirulent mutant, the type of virulent strain, the timing of inoculation and the strain concentrations.

Molecular comparison of pathogenic bacteria from pear trees in Japan and the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the genus Erwinia strains isolated from pear trees in Japan with the necrotic symptoms resembling fire blight. The relationship of these strains to the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora has been investigated and the results indicate that they differ from E. amylovora but are related to E. pyrifoliae, the species that causes Asian pear blight.

The elements of the locus of enterocyte effacement in human and wild mammal isolates of Escherichia coli: evolution by assemblage or disruption?

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the evolutionary dynamics of the genes involved in the A-E lesion in Escherichia coli. The results of the analysis of the associations between bacterial serotype, bacterial genealogy and the presence of the locus of enterocyte effacement-encoded pathogenic genes are reported.
