Fertility versus disease resistance, a hard choice

Article Abstract:

A difficult problem in the plant world where they have to choose between fertility and pathogen defense, depending on levels of the xa13 gene is described. Xa13 is essential for pollen development as it is for disease resistance and it can be seen in plants when the produce Xa13 during pollination and to fight infection which shows that development and disease resistance are often intimately connected.

Cancer-associated mutations in chromatin remodeler hSNF5 promote chromosomal instability by compromising the mitotic checkpoint

Article Abstract:

The loss of human SNF5 (hSNF5) function in malignant rhabdoid tumor (MRT)-derived cells is reported that lead to polyploidization and chromosomal instability. It was found that hSNF5 activates the mitotic checkpoint through the p16(Super INK4a)-cyclinD/CDK4-pRb-E2F pathway.
