Genetic variation in Fusarium section Liseola from no-till maize in Argentina

Article Abstract:

The soil fungi isolated from no-till maize fields in Argentina are similar to those found in fields maintained with conventional tillage practices. Fusarium species belonging to a vegetative compatibility group were no more closely related to other members of the group than they were to members of other groups..

Production of fusaric acid by Fusarium species

Article Abstract:

Fusaric acid, a mycotoxin with low toxicity, is produced by different Fusarium species including Gibberella fujikuroi. All the 12 Fusarium species tested produce fusaric acid on autoclaved corn. The G. fujikuroi mating population C is the highest producer of fusaric acid. These fungi are distributed in grain and nongrain hosts. Fusaric acid interacts with the toxins, fumonisins and moniliformin and plays a role in the plant disease process.

Female fertility and mating type distribution in a South African population of Fusarium sugblutinans f. sp. pini

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the frequent occurrence of two mating type alleles in the South African founder population of Fusarium subglutinans f. sp. pini. F. subglutinans f. sp. pini isolates were determined from diseased Pinus patula seedlings. The number of strains that function as the female parent hinders the effective population number. Sexual reproduction was suggested to occur only once per 26 to 153 asexual generations.
