Article Abstract:
A report on the results of experiments designed to assess the influence of various factors are reported on factors on Bacillus subtilis spore germination with the pressure of 150 MPa are presented. The results reveal that many requirements for the triggering of Bacillus subtilis spore germination through the pressure activation of nutrient receptors are similar if not identical to the requirements for the nutrient activation of the receptors.

Article Abstract:
The full-genome DNA microarrays were used to monitor global gene expression profiles of Bacillus subtilis grown with and without furanone in response to different stimuli. The results suggest that some type of stress response was induced by the furanone, and a mutant with a deletion in one of the induced stress response genes, clpC, was found to be more sensitive to growth inhibition by furanone.

Article Abstract:
A modified Fenton reagent that contains CuCl(sub 2) and ascorbic acid was used for killing the spores of Bacillus subtilis. The spore DNA was not damaged by CuCl(sub 2)-ascorbic acid but the inner membrane of the spores killed by CuCl(sub 2)-ascorbic acid may be damaged.
