Extracellular proteases produced by the Quorn myco-protein fungus Fusarium graminearum in batch and chemostat culture

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on extracellular proteases generated by the Fusarium graminearum in batch and chemostat cultures on a glucose-mineral salts medium with or without casein. Results have shown that no protease activity occurs in batch or chemostat cultures grown without casein, while proteolytic activity reached ca pH 5.0 in those grown with casein. Moreover, only a single aspartic protease was found in chemostat cultures, while at least seven proteins were purified from batch cultures.

Differentiation of human Capnocytophaga species by multilocus enzyme electrophoretic analysis and serotyping of immunoglobulin A1 proteases

Article Abstract:

A phylogenetic approach was adopted using multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MLEE) of intracellular metabolic enzymes on a collection of 50 strains of the genus Capnocytophaga. Inhibition typing was employed to characterize the immunoglobulin A1 (IgA1) proteases of the strains, using enzyme-neutralizing antibodies against IgA1 protease preparations from the type strains of C. ochracea, C. sputigena and C. gingivalis.

A Pneumocytis carinii multi-gene family with homology to subtilisin-like serine proteases

Article Abstract:

The identification and characterization of the Pneumocytis carinii f. sp. carinii PRT1 multigene family was reported. High levels of homology of the PRT1 sequences to subtilisin-like serine proteases were also shown. Different copies of the PRT1 genes were found showing DNA sequence heterogeneity while some copies are contiguous with major surface glycoprotein genes.
