Extended survival and persistence of Campylobacter spp. in water and aquatic biofilms and their detection by immunofluorescent-antibody and -rRNA staining

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the impact of strain variation, competing microflora and biofilm involvement, and physical parameters on the ability of Campylobacter jejuni to survive in aquatic, nutrient-deficient environments. The findings indicate that the survival times of Campylobacter isolates are affected by particular combinations of temperature and oxygenation, the presence of autochthonous water microflora, and strains.

Fungal communities associated with degradation of polyester polyurethane in soil

Article Abstract:

The examination of soil fungal communities involved in the biodegradation of polyester polyurethane (PU) is presented. Results reveal different fungi to be associated with PU degradation in different soils however the physical process is independent of soil type.

Coaggregation between aquatic bacteria is mediated by specific-growth-phase-dependent lectin-saccharide interactions

Article Abstract:

Partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to identify five strains of coaggregating bacteria. Each member of the coaggregating pair had a lectin adhesin or a saccharide receptor and coaggregation was inhibited by sugars.
