Article Abstract:
The expression of the strA-strB streptomycin resistance genes encoded by the Tn5393 transposon appears to be increased by the presence of the IS6100 insertion sequence in Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria. The expression of these genes was studied in Pseusomonas syringae pv. syringae and X. campestris pv. vesicatoria. The dissemination of Tn5393 in phytopathogenic bacteria and its ability to acquire IS elements demonstrates its significant role in conferring antibiotic resistance in the environment.

Article Abstract:
Copper-resistant strains of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria were shown to carry plasmidinorne copper resistance genes related to the cop and pco operons of Pseudomonas syringae and Escherichia coli, respectively. A transcriptional fusion of the Xanthomonas cop promoter with the Pseudomonas copABCDRS was able to confer resistance to copper in Xanthomonas, showing divergence in the mechanisms of regulation of the resistance to copper.

Article Abstract:
The characterization of copper resistance genes of Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria, the causal agent of bacterial spot of tomato and pepper, was reported. Southern blot hybridization experiments show that copper resistance genes in X. campestris pv. vesicatoria from Florida, Oklahama and California are closely related and have similarities to the copper resistance operon from Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato.
