Article Abstract:
Research reveals that the Lactobacillus helveticus transformed with the arbZ gene confers the ability to use arbutin and cellobiose, salicin and methyl-beta-glucoside by the bacteria. Data point out that arbZ is a phospho-beta-glyosidase enzyme and its catabolite repression is brought about by glucose, mannose, fructose and galactose.

Article Abstract:
New peptidase genes of Lactobacillus delbrueckii namely pepC and pepG which encode cysteine aminopeptidase and cysteine protease respectively were identified. The activities of these two genes were compared using beta-NA and p-nitroanilide substrates and leucine or proline-containing peptides applied in a Salmonella typhimurium growth test. Findings revealed that the enzymes have different substrate specificities even though they are structurally related.

Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine whether the open reading frame, pepR1, encodes a catabolite-control protein, CcpA, in a thermophilic bacterial species. Results demonstrate that pepR1 possesses CcpA-like functions and modulates gene transcription which, in the presence of lactose, causes a twofold increase in the prolidase activity.
